API Terms of Use
Rules for using the Neverin API (api.neverin.hr) that supplement the general Terms of Use.
The API Terms of Use are available in Croatian and English.
The Neverin API (api.neverin.hr, the "API") lets you retrieve weather forecasts, precipitation nowcasts and measurements from weather stations (the "Data") from your scripts, servers and applications. These API Terms of Use (the "API Terms") govern access to the API and the use of the Data obtained through it.
You create an API key in your Profile. By creating a key or sending a request to the API, you confirm that you have read and accepted these API Terms. If you do not agree with them, you must not use the API.
1. Scope and relationship to the Terms of Use
The API Terms supplement the general Terms of Use, which apply to the API in all matters not otherwise governed by these API Terms. The terms "Neverin", "we", "Services" and "Content" have the meanings given to them in the Terms of Use. If the provisions of the two documents conflict, these API Terms prevail for the use of the API.
The API is a form of automated access that we expressly authorise within the meaning of section 2 of the Terms of Use. Any other automated access to the Services, including scraping the website and the app, remains prohibited.
If you have concluded a Neverin Business contract with Neverin, the provisions of that contract take precedence over these API Terms and the Terms of Use.
2. API keys
An API key can be created by users with a verified email address who have an active Premium subscription, a Neverin Business contract or an active weather station in the Neverin network. One account can have at most three active keys, unless a Neverin Business contract provides otherwise.
The key is personal and secret. It is tied to your account, and you are responsible for every request sent with it. You must:
- send the key only in the
X-API-Keyheader, never in a URL; - never put it in code that runs in a browser or that others can read, including public code repositories;
- never share it with third parties, sell it or transfer it.
We show the full key only once, when it is created, and store only a cryptographic hash of it, so we cannot recover a lost key. If you suspect that a key has leaked, revoke it in your Profile immediately and create a new one. A revoked key stops working at once.
For every request, we record the IP address, the key, the account, the route, the parameters, the time and the outcome of the request, in order to enforce the limits, show your usage in your Profile and keep the system secure. You can read more about how we process this data in our Privacy Policy.
3. Plans, limits and fair use
The data available with each plan and the number of requests allowed are described on the Neverin API page, in the API keys section of your Profile and in the API documentation. In short:
- with a free account and during the trial period, the API is available only to owners of an active station, for the data of their stations;
- a Premium subscription also includes the forecast, the nowcast and the current data of other stations, with a daily limit on the number of requests;
- for Neverin Business, the scope of the data and the limits are set by the contract.
The daily limit applies to the whole account, not to an individual key, and the day is counted in UTC. Requests for the data of your own stations do not count towards the daily limit, but a per-minute limit on the number of requests applies to them as well. When you exceed a limit, the API rejects requests until the limit resets.
Use the API reasonably: do not circumvent the limits, for example by opening several accounts or sharing keys, do not send requests more often than you need to, and do not burden the system in a way that disrupts other users. We may change the limits; the current ones are always published on the Neverin API page and in the documentation.
4. Attribution
Every API response names the source of the data in the meta.attribution field. When you show the data to others, on a website, in an app or anywhere else, clearly credit that source alongside it:
- for the forecast and the nowcast: "Neverin", preferably with a link to www.neverin.hr;
- for station data: the station's source given in the response, with its licence where one is given.
You must not remove, hide or alter the source, or present the data in a way that suggests it comes from someone else or that Neverin endorses you. Attribution is not required for the data of your own stations, or for data you use only for yourself without showing it to others.
5. Permitted use
The API is intended for personal and non-commercial projects, such as scripts, home automation, personal websites and your own applications. Public display of the data is permitted with the attribution described in section 4.
Any commercial use requires a Neverin Business contract. Commercial use includes in particular:
- using the data in a product or service that you charge for, or in the course of your business activity;
- reselling, sublicensing or distributing the data to third parties, in original or modified form;
- building collections or databases from data obtained through the API in order to offer them to others.
You may use the data of your own stations as you wish, including for commercial purposes (section 6).
6. Weather station data
Data from stations that are not yours remains subject to the licence of its source, which the API states alongside the station's source when the licence is known. When using that data, comply with that licence as well as these API Terms. Some public stations are not available through the API at the request of their source.
As a station owner, you may use the data of your own stations as you wish, without the restrictions of section 5 and without the obligation to credit the source. This data is available through the API while the station is active and linked to your account.
7. Availability and accuracy
We provide the API "as is" and "as available". We do not guarantee its uninterrupted availability or its response times, nor the accuracy, completeness or timeliness of the data. Interruptions may occur due to maintenance, technical problems or the unavailability of data sources, such as radars or stations. The nowcast is available only in the area covered by the radar imagery.
The data is provided for informational purposes only and must not be used as the sole basis for safety-critical, legal, financial or emergency decisions. Neverin does not issue official warnings, so you must not present data obtained through the API as official warnings either. In the event of severe weather, rely on the competent meteorological services and civil protection services.
8. API versions
The current version of the API is v1, with routes that begin with /v1/. New routes, new parameters and new fields in responses may appear within v1, so your code must ignore fields it does not recognise. We will release changes that would break existing integrations as a new version, for example /v2.
Version v1 is available until further notice. We do not commit to a deadline or a notice period for discontinuing any version.
9. Suspension and revocation of keys
We may temporarily block or permanently revoke a key, and restrict or terminate access to the API, if:
- the key leaks or is used by someone other than the account owner;
- you breach these API Terms or the Terms of Use, including by circumventing the limits or by commercial use without a contract;
- your use endangers the security or stability of the system or disrupts other users.
Where reasonably possible, we will notify you of this by email.
When a Premium subscription expires, your keys keep working for the data of your own stations and for viewing your usage, while the forecast, the nowcast and other stations become available again as soon as you renew Premium, with no need to create a new key. Deleting your account also deletes all of its keys and usage data.
10. Liability
The provisions on the disclaimer of warranties and the limitation of liability in sections 14 and 15 of the Terms of Use apply to the use of the API. Neverin is not liable for damage resulting from the unavailability of the API or from incorrect, delayed or incomplete data, nor for damage that you or third parties suffer through the use of products or displays that rely on data obtained through the API.
You are responsible for your use of the API and the data, and for ensuring that this use, as well as your products that use them, complies with these API Terms and applicable law.
Nothing in these API Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded under mandatory law, or the statutory rights you have as a consumer.
11. Changes and contact
We may change these API Terms from time to time. We will notify users with an active API key of material changes in advance, by email or on the Neverin API page, with reasonable notice before they take effect. The "Last updated" date always reflects the most recent version, and continued use of the API after the changes take effect means that you accept them. If you do not agree with the changes, stop using the API and revoke your keys.
Send questions about the API and enquiries about Neverin Business to [email protected]. Our other contact details are listed in the Terms of Use.
